Inescapable guilt

I’ve harmed someone. I’ve acknowledged it. I strive to make myself better in order to make it far less likely it’ll happen again, or worse. I am still suffocated with guilt sometimes. What can I do? I’ve had it suggested that I forgive myself. Easier said than done.

Good professors or good administrators? What does the academy need more of right now?

Professors are the core of the programs but the administrators cut the checks and create the policies that attract/keep good professors. The chicken or the egg? At this point in time, to save western academia, which do we need more of?

How can I integrate the fear within me?

Recent experiences made me aware that a great deal more fear undergirds my daily life than I'd ever realized before. You have discussed the development of the shadow, that is, making conscious the capacity for lust, anger, or aggression that lurks within oneself. Could you expand upon how we come to be aware of the other aspects of our unconsciousness, particularly the terror that can prevent us from taking action towards our highest aims in life? How can I best integrate this fear and keep it from holding me back, or even let it help me towards my aims? Carl Jung's words provide some useful context for why I am trying to understand this: "Man's task is...to become conscious of the contents that press upward from the unconscious. Neither should he persist in his unconsciousness nor remain identical with the unconscious elements of his being, thus evading his destiny, which is to create more and more consciousness. As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being."
