Mental Illness or Tragedy
I have been diagnosed with bipolar type 1. The symptoms of this illness have wreaked havoc in my personal and professional life. By reflecting on your work, and the works of many other people, and through substantial effort on my part I have made great improvements in my life. You have often mentioned a hypothetical person who is bitter and resentful, has no job, friends, or romantic partner and has a medical diagnosis and a drug or alcohol problem. That was me, but now I have a good career in the trades with growth potential, a small but growing community, and many other things are going well in my life. I can trace my mania's and depressions, both of which were present for years at a time, to periods of extreme stress and real titanic shifts in world view and existential crisis. My question is: to what extent can the symptoms of mental illness be brought about by stress and tragedy, and if the symptoms of a diagnosis recide through practical interventions, what is the validity of a diagnosis like bipolar type 1. The powerful medications and the stigma of having a serious mental health diagnosis seem to be more of an impediment to self-improvement than an assent. Thank you for your thoughts, voice, and time!

Baby and the Beast
In a recent clip you stated (and I'm paraphrasing) "Are we really going to pretend that women, as a general rule, are as tough as men?" You were speaking about taking down sociopaths. With regards to meaning you have suggested to pick something that bothers me and make it my responsibility. Something that deeply bothers me is the pandemic of child sexual exploitation. Of course it does, as I am motherly and have a typical female temperament. Although women are perhaps the most bothered by it, is it our responsibility? You have stated that the female hero myth is civilizing the Beast. How do we get the Beast back? I believe most men have a natural protective instinct, and are dangerous to pedophiles. Have manly men become too civilized, or are they not aware of the issue at hand and how to help? Would you consider speaking about this issue with Sam Harris, (who is interested in maximizing well-being and is capable of tackling difficult subject material)and/or Tim Ballard, the creator of Operation Underground Railroad?
